NEW R&D COOPERATION PROJECT TO DEVELOP ANTIFRICTION COATINGS FOR MARINE INDUSTRY

(September 2015) – Nanto Cleantech is pleased to announce the R&D Cooperation Project named RedFriCoat (Novel process for producing reduced friction coatings for flowing fluids over solids) with Fincantieri S.p.A. for cruise and military applications in marine industry.

The agreement is the result of successful call application (years 2015 – 2016) of the Cooperation Agreement in the field of research and industrial development, science and technology between Italy and Israel.

The research project goal is to develop innovative and cleantech coating systems and solutions based on functionalised nanoparticles to reduce the friction of fluids and specifically water when flowing over solid surfaces by repelling the liquids from the surface. This may result in reducing the friction of ships during navigation or enhance liquids flow inside the pipelines. The basic approach is to covalently bond the functional nanoparticles to ensure the coating durability.

These attributes are highly demanded in Marine for the reduction of fuel and energy consumption during flow/ship navigation and, consequently, abatement of CO2 emissions.
