Nanto Cleantech developed a biocide-free technology for antifouling applications
The demands of the marine industry for functional coatings are diversified: from corrosion protection of the ship’s hull, through antifouling characteristics and to reduced friction with the aim to save fuel and improve vessel’s performances. Corrosion is the result of exposure to salt water, moisture, UV-light, high temperature and oxygen, while fouling can compromise ship’s speed, which results in more fuel consumption.
Following new environmental regulations, there is an emerging interest in green solutions to improve performance of the ships and reducing the carbon emissions at the same time.
Nanto Cleantech has designed and developed new solutions for the marine sector to increase durability and at the same time protect the environment without use biocides.
The incorporation of properly modified and treated nanoparticles to polymer resins allows to:
1) reduce and replace toxic inhibitors;
2) increase barrier properties to oxygen and water;
3) enhancing the superhydrophobic properties of the products;
4) using zero biocides.
The process of Nanto nanoparticles production is based on water, with 90% recycle and low temperature operation, means that Nanto’s technology is a sustainable Green Technology.
