Nanto Cleantech developed a biocide-free technology for antifouling applications
Less than one week is left to the 2018 American Coatings Show & Conference, the biennial event hosted by ACA and partner Vincentz Network. This event provides a platform for industry professionals to highlight cutting-edge research results and allows companies the opportunity to present innovative new products in the field of coatings.
Nanto Cleantech CEO Roberto Cafagna will give a presentation on April 9, at 4-4:30 pm in the session “Functional and Smart Coatings” regarding the innovative company’s technologies for anticorrosion, antifriction and antifouling applications in the marine industry.
The technologies are covered by international patents granted in more than 100 countries worldwide, the result of years spent in research, design and development activities, in collaboration with important universities and research institutes, one among all is the Shenkar College of Tel Aviv.
The technology is based on the addition of functionalized nanoparticles, which improve the anticorrosion and antifriction properties, and natural substances for the antifouling purposes, giving a biocide-free environmental friendly solution for ship’s hull applications.
In particular, the new technology for antifriction exploits superhydrophobic surfaces (SHS). Thanks to the sophisticated micro-nano tailored hierarchical structure, SHS can form a stable layer of air between the hull’s wall and the fluid, greatly reducing drag and skin friction.
These unique cross patented technologies can be incorporated to develop a multifunctional coating system, structured as below:
Moreover, Nanto Cleantech technologies allow a cost saving in terms of raw materials, as there is a 50% less in using corrosion inhibitors, a partial to total reduction in hazardous materials and a reduction of 20% of the coating quantity.
